Coastal Grandmother Interior Design

Who was really prepared for this one? The newest trend in interior design… coastal grandmother. This is all about being cozy, folks. We’re talking about a nice mix between Nancy Meyer’s movies and Martha Stewart’s home. You may be thinking, what does this actually entail, well, I’m here to break it down for you.

When I think of either of my grandmother’s houses, I run right to vintage pieces. A nice hutch with china elegantly displayed, a fresh vase of flowers on the dining table and cozy blankets for days. I also think about cookies and desserts, but we’ll revisit that later.

What makes the coastal grandmother designs, well… coastal, is the use of soft whites and blues in your color palette. Once that’s paired with plenty of natural sunlight in the home and some light, breezy curtains you have the perfect foundation. Let’s not get carried away thinking you have to have everything nautical from your local store, that’s definitely going in the wrong direction.

So how do you start incorporating this look into your home?

  • Jute Rugs

  • Terracotta Plants

  • Herb Garden on Your Windowsill

  • Copper Pots and Pans

  • Simple Linen Tea Towels

  • Fresh Flowers

  • Display of Books

  • Baskets

  • Bowls of Fruit on Display

  • Wood Cutting Board

  • Pastry Dish Full of Cookies (I told you we’d revisit)

  • Light Airy Curtains

  • Large Cozy Blankets

It’s all about taking it down a notch. A more leisurely way of thinking and designing, if you will. Think about an old brick cottage, on the hill of plush greenery, no shortage of plants and landscaping with timeless pieces incorporated into your home.

To bookend, it’s all about being cozy.
