Fireworks and Furry Friends: How to Keep Your Pets Safe This Fourth of July

Hi everyone, it's Stacy Hampel here. With the 4th of July right around the corner, it's time to start thinking about celebrating our nation's independence with friends and family. However, as we all know, the celebrations usually involve fireworks, which can be a source of anxiety and danger for our furry, four-legged friends.

As a local REALTOR® to North Fort Worth and animal lover, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some tips for keeping your pets safe during the 4th of July and fireworks season.

1. Keep your pets indoors: The loud noises from fireworks can be very frightening for pets, causing them to panic and run away. Make sure to keep your pets inside during fireworks displays to prevent them from escaping and getting lost.

2. Create a safe space: If possible, create a quiet and comfortable space for your pets to retreat to during the celebrations. This can be a room in the house or even a crate or carrier with some of their favorite toys and treats. The familiar smells and objects can help them feel more secure.

3. Update their identification: It's always a good idea to have updated identification tags on your pets, but it's especially important during loud and crowded events like the 4th of July. If your pet does escape, having their information on their collar can help them find their way back home to you.

4. Stay calm: As pet owners, our pets often look to us for reassurance. If we are calm and relaxed during the fireworks, it can help alleviate some of their anxiety. You can also try playing soft music or turning on the TV to create background noise and distract them from the loud bangs outside.

5. Consult with your vet: If you know your pet has severe anxiety during loud events, it may be worth talking to your vet beforehand. They may be able to prescribe medication or recommend other strategies to help your pet during this stressful time.

6. Keep fireworks away from pets: It's important to remember that fireworks are not safe for pets to play with. Keep them stored away in a secure place, out of reach of curious paws. If ingested, it can cause serious harm to your pet.

7. Check your fences: Make sure to regularly check your fence for any loose or damaged areas that your dog may be able to escape through, especially during firework season. Also, consider reinforcing the bottom of the fence to prevent digging. It's important to provide a safe and secure space for your dog to prevent them from getting scared or running away during loud fireworks.

Remember, our pets are part of our families and we need to make sure they are safe during any holiday

celebrations. By following these tips, we can ensure that the 4th of July is a fun and safe time for both us and our furry companions.

I hope these tips were helpful and I wish you and your pets a happy and safe 4th of July! As always, if you're looking to buy or sell a home in the North Fort Worth area, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday!
