House Hunting Must Dos

House hunting isn’t always a walk in the park and we’re just coming off of a housing market that if you took too long breathing you would lose out on a deal. The time to slow it down is back as the market starts normalizing again. The previous housing market the past couple of years has no doubt added a few more gray hairs to everyone’s head if you were trying to purchase a home, but just know, a rush decision when embarking on your largest investment shouldn’t be quick. Here are some things that are PERFECTLY OKAY and expected when you’re looking to purchase a house.

Ask Your Agent Questions - It seems silly to have to say it, but all too many times not enough questions are being asked. It is not your job to know every little in and out of the real estate transaction, that’s what we’re here for. We are here to help you with the largest investment in your life. It’s perfectly okay to ask questions, even if they seem silly to you or if you anticipate them feeling silly to us. It’s also our job to listen, to listen to every aspect of what you’re searching for, what you dislike and any red flags that are raised. It’s important that you feel heard! I would be happy to help out in any way that I can!

Take Your Time - Going back up to the intro, 2020 - 2021 was insane (that’s an understatement). If you took too long on anything, you were likely missing out on a deal. It’s time to wrap that up and put that thought away. This is a large investment. It’s imperative that you take your time; whether that’s at your showing, drafting your offer or searching for a home. You want to be confident that you are making the best decision for you and your family.

Not Win Every Offer - This one is difficult. It’s so easy to let your emotions get in the way of making a purchasing decision when it comes to a home. Believe me, I’ve been there. If you have your heart set on a home and don’t win that offer, it can be one of the most heartbreaking experiences. Just know that everything truly does work out in the end and you have to trust that process.

Not Settle on a House - This is so important. You don’t want to ever settle on a house. It’s more exciting to say “we’re under contract with a house we love” rather than “we’re under contract on a house that’ll do.” This is your purchase, your investment. This is where you will be making new memories and establishing a new epicenter for your life, don’t settle!

Sleep on a Decision - This goes right back to taking your time and how everything falls into place when it’s right. You have every right to sleep on any decision you’re making when purchasing a home, I cannot stress this enough. You can sleep on moving forward with putting in an offer, what to do when there’s a counter offer, etc.

Find Your Dream Home - When you’re touring homes, you’re not only seeing how you would live there you’re actually putting together a little list stashed away in your brain of what you like and dislike. It’s okay to view several homes - you’re ultimately piecing together your dream home without even realizing you’re doing it. And when you find the one and secure, it’s one of the most gratifying experiences.

Ultimately, the best thing you can do is to take your time and be confident in any decision you make. It’s okay to sleep on decisions, it’s okay to view several homes, it’s okay to ask as many questions, and it’s okay to not win every offer. Everything is lining up for you the way that it should. If you’re ready to start navigating the process, don’t do it alone. It’s important to find a realtor with experience, patience and who can throw a little fun into the mix. I’d love to be that person for you!
