How to Know if a Neighborhood is Right for You!

If you’re looking for the perfect place to call home, you can’t just look at the house alone. There are other factors that you should look into before you sign the paperwork. Where you live becomes your epicenter, and you’ll want to make sure that your neighborhood is the perfect fit for you, and your family. Here are some things to consider before you officially start looking for a new home:

Map Out Your Places of Interest

Think of all the places you tend to frequent; a church, a gym, hair salon, doctor’s office, etc. Make sure you map out where those places are in reference to where you’re looking for a home. If it’s too far, scout the area for places that could potentially replace where you were frequenting before.

Map Out Your Amenities

Some neighborhoods in Texas are members of a home owner’s associations. While some may frown at that, others see the opportunity to enjoy some amenities. Many HOAs will have community parks or community pools. Some even have fishing ponds. Make sure you map out the proximity of your home to those extra perks of living in a neighborhood ran by an HOA.

Time Your Commute

This is a big one here. As more and more people move to Texas, the more and more vehicles there are on the road. When you’re considering a place to live, make sure you’re checking the commute to and from your place of employment. From a mileage standpoint, you may be ok. Be sure to check peak times of travel during the day to map out your commute. Is there a lot of construction? Does it tend to bottleneck in an area? Do you have access to expressways?

Visit During Different Parts of the Day

When you visit a neighborhood during the morning on the weekend, you may experience a whole different way in the later parts of the day during the week. To make sure that you’re in line with the neighborhood and their offerings, be sure to visit at different times of the day and different days of the week.

Scout Out Local Restaurants

Last, but certainly not least, restaurants. Check out some local eateries that are close to where you’re looking for a home. It may not be a priority for all, but it definitely is appealing to be close to some good eating!

I hope this information has been helpful to you. From a personal standpoint, I failed to cross off all the boxes above and have had to learn the hard way. If you’re looking for a place to call home, all things considered, reach out to me and let’s start the conversation!
